December 11-17

Overview of the Week

This week’s themes: ruminating, false hope, and bad comedic timing. We’re coming off a high after last week's series of positive transits, and we’re stepping into… a potential mess. This isn’t the week where shit completely hits the fan. It’s two weeks before that, when we all start thinking too hard about the backhanded comment our aunt made at Thanksgiving and the inevitable resentment begins to bud. Or we’re beginning to feel undervalued by our partner and, in attempt to make light of our frustration, we make a joke that’s just real enough to start a fight. Whatever the source of your irritation this week, just know the snowball is forming, and I think we should all refrain from pushing it down the hill.

The week starts off with a New Moon in Sagittarius on Tuesday, signifying a turning point. What once was consistent and stable is now about to change and may possibly become misleading or abstruse. With the New Moon conjoining Mars, this lunation is supercharged with aggravation and bitterness. What is normally a time for manifestation and new beginnings now becomes a time of confusion and re-evaluation.

The New Moon leads us right into Mercury stationing Retrograde on Wednesday, and it will continue to rotate in reverse for the remainder of the year. In Capricorn, Mercury Rx indicates rescheduling appointments, resetting boundaries, and reviewing our plans for the future. There may be an air of self doubt or reassessing what was planned earlier in the month. Maybe we’re going back over our goals for the New Year, now unsure of what we really want or if we’re ready. Reflection and reexamination are retrograde requirements. Just make sure to check yourself before throwing the baby out with the bath water.

For details on how these transits may affect you this week, check your sun, moon, and rising signs below!

Aries

You’re the man with all the answers, Aries, and for some reason, no one wants your advice. This week, you’re feeling knowledgable and wise, but you’re having a difficult time communicating your ideas to those around you. Maybe you’re sharing your ideas at work or online, and the response is falling flat. When you’re feeling insightful, you may feel an impulse to give unsolicited advice. That’s a kind gesture, but rarely goes over well with the recipient. Instead, take your insights to the page. If you’re feeling especially passionate about this theory, maybe turn it into an essay or the beginnings of a thesis. It’s a good week to embark on any academic endeavors you’ve been considering or simply starting an intellectual project. You’re welcome to take action, just keep your ideas out of the public for a couple weeks.

Taurus

There are two things that are most important to you, Taurus: beauty and the body. Combining the two provides the world with food, flowers, cashmere, and anything else that is both visually and sensorially pleasing. An underrated element in this bunch is spiritual practice. Some of the greatest works of art, music, and architecture have been inspired by religion, and this week, you’re feeling inspired by it as well. Your spiritual or internal regulatory practice has been helping you stay afloat this past year, and this week you’re coming to understand just how necessary it is to your daily life. You’re making a commitment to yourself to take care of your soul in the New Year, Taurus, and it’s important for you to know, that these beliefs don’t need to make sense to anyone but you. Step into this journey confidently and in style, just like you always do, and don’t ask anyone for permission.

Gemini

Love is in the air, Gemini; serious, comfortable, everlasting love. This week, you may be feeling ready to find or commit to a long term partner. Maybe you’ve been out of the dating game and you’re ready to get back on the horse, or maybe you’ve been dating for a while and you’re ready to take the relationship to the next level. Either way, this new love is promising and could last quite a while. There’s only one real problem with this potential lover: your beliefs and backgrounds don’t really match up. Maybe they don’t have the same religious beliefs as you, or maybe you were imagining dating someone a little more financially stable. Don’t try to make them anyone they’re not, Gemini. Your differences are what make you a great couple. Embrace and accept what you perceive as “flaws.” That’s true love.

Cancer

Ruled by the Moon, feeling good in your body should be your number one priority, Cancer. You notice your body, physically and visually, and you’re typically more aware than anyone your physical health. The only obstacle is you’re not the best at taking action, but this week, you’re about to hit your breaking point. Any health issues you’ve been neglecting will be making themselves clear to you, Cancer. Same goes for your mental health. I find that these days, so much of our mental health struggles have to do with too much or too little work. Either we’re working ourselves to death or we’re rotting in bed, mindlessly scrolling through our feed of choice. Get ahead of these struggles, Cancer, and don’t let anyone—especially a lover—get in your way. I know you know what you could be doing for yourself. Let’s see what you look like when you start acting like the person you want to become.

Leo

Maybe it’s the holidays, or maybe it’s the New Moon, Leo, but there’s this child-like wonder about you this week. Life is feeling hopeful and nostalgic, and it seems like a good time to reward yourself even if there’s nothing to celebrate. I really love when you’re like this, Leo: wide-eyed like a kid in a candy shop. Really the only thing that could put a damper on it is work. With these feelings of joy, there’s an impulse to abandon your projects, routines, and health in the name of indulgence. I’m glad you’re taking time to enjoy yourself, Leo, but you can’t abandon all responsibility. This is a great week to practice balance and taming your impulses. Future you will thank you for it.

Virgo

Family is a difficult group to feel we can renew. Often we return to family with the same patterns and the same expectations year after year with no change in sight. But this year, Virgo, you’re feeling like things could be different. Maybe you’re changing up your holiday plans, breaking some generational curses, or just looking at your family with a little more empathy this week. No matter the mission, you’re feeling determined to change the status quo within your family, but it’s not going to be easy. The younger you isn’t so sure that this is an option. Maybe your inner child is begging you not to risk it. Work with them this week. Reassure them that you’ve got it all under control. You’re ready for this, Virgo. Your ancestors are routing for you.

Libra

You’re fed up this week, Libra, and frankly, I don’t blame you. The past two years have been rough for your ruling planet, Venus, and you deserve to be sick of the hardship. You’re usually understanding, peaceful, and optimistic in conversation, but there may be little bright side for you to look on right now. As you approach your breaking point, your impulse is to become sharp-tongued and judgmental, and I have to tell you, Libra, you’re scary when you’re mad. Personally, I love when you’re honest and direct. The judgments you make usually hold a lot of wisdom, and it’s an opportune time to free yourself of the constant desire for other’s approval. But I know you, Libra, and I know the real you doesn’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. This is a great way to explore direct communication. Is there a way you can be unmediated without being mean?

Scorpio

When you see a problem, Scorpio, you approach it head on, and the current economy is definitely a problem. This year has been difficult in finance and romance. You may have attempted to increase your salary, change careers, start a business, or invest in stocks, and you can’t seem to get a bite. The New Moon this week is your boiling point, and in the face of heat, Scorpio, you’re tungsten. It’s not that you want to lead a challenging life; there’s just simply no one better under pressure. When you’ve reached your breaking point, it’s go time. And this week, you’re motivated to finally get what you’ve been wanting. You’re a warrior, Scorpio. Be focused. Be ruthless. But be aware of who you’re fighting.

Sagittarius

Newness is in the air, Sagittarius: the New Moon, the New Year, the New You? This week, you’re feeling driven towards change. There are some things about yourself, your habits, and how you currently live that you’ve been dissatisfied with, and you’re finally fed up with your own shit. Once you hit a breaking point, you’re quick to make necessary changes, but not everyone is so quick to get on board. You’re not afraid to tell people how it is, Sagittarius, and once you’ve chosen a path, no one can stop you from taking it. It’s your instinct to pile-drive any obstacle that gets in your way, but what if it’s someone you care about? Give those around you a little grace this week, Sagittarius. They may become great supports if you just explain the mission.

Capricorn

For a driven, go-getter like you, Capricorn, failed efforts are particularly frustrating. You understand the patience necessary to successfully conduct trial and error testing, but when you’ve exhausted all of your options—and giving up is never one of them—discouragement is inevitable. This week, it may feel difficult to accurately express yourself, leaving you feeling misunderstood. This may feel particularly disappointing coming off of last week’s communication high. You were branching out, building relationships, and taking on leadership roles, but this week, I think the universe may simply be asking you to implement some balance. Last week was for reaching out, and this week is for reaching in. Take time with yourself this week, Capricorn. Write your thoughts in a notebook, and manage your expectations in feeling heard and understood.

Aquarius

The queen of community building, you’re ready to make some new friends in the New Year, Aquarius! You may have been spending time envisioning all of the projects and events that will lead to you meeting your new people, and this week you’re feeling like you can finally start taking action towards them. Unfortunately, not everyone is going to understand your vision. You have a very clear image in your head of how you want this to go, and this week, you may have a difficult time articulating it. Your immediate response to being misunderstood may be to spiral into self doubt, but you and I both know your ideas are unique, Aquarius. Taking action doesn’t necessarily mean getting everyone involved just yet. This week is about the work you can do on your own. Once all of the logistics are fleshed out, your vision will become much clearer to those around you, and they’ll be ready to hop on board.

Pisces

2088. That’s how many hours the average person works in a year, Pisces. 2088 out of 5840 waking hours in a year. You may be experiencing some doubts about your career and work life. Maybe the industry you work in doesn’t interest you anymore, or the values of the company you work for doesn’t align with your beliefs, or maybe you’re just in a great position to transition into a new career path. Whatever changes are happening occupationally for you, this is the week to lean into them. This week you’re feeling ready to set sail on a new journey. It may be scary, and you may feel like you have to fight to get the support you need from others or even yourself. I’m here to tell you, you know exactly what’s best for you, and if you plan to make this change, fully commit yourself to it. You’re deeply intuitive, Pisces. Trust your gut.
